Divisadero Sketch

Acrylic on Cardstock

Saw this scene on my way home yesterday. Snapped it on the iPhone and couldn't wait to sketch it. At last, no fish.

I do like the subject and the general composition, so I think I'll spend a little time working this into something bigger.

Hi Gringo, I agree, you should make a "larger" (whatever THAT means) painting of this sketch. For me "larger" is MUCH easier than smaller. Keep on keeping on! You do good stuff! :-)

Interesting that on a busy street, you're attracted to the buildings that are boarded up or closed during the day. I wonder if including a bit of the activity of the auto shop or, what's next nearer, the meat market? might contrast with the loss and the expectation of your 2 buildings. That might also emphasize how big and white and sad the abandoned church looks.

In any case, as always, looking forward to seeing your next piece.

You're on the right track. Really good brushwork. This one has good bones.
