Farmers Market Palm

Acrylic on Cardstock - 4.25" x 6"

Going through recent photos I found this one taken at the farmer's market in Oakland. That big tan area in the back is the Grand Lake Theatre.

I thought I'd do a quick sketch to see what transpired. Not terribly excited about the composition, but I have other shots and may even try making a composite. It's something I've been reading about a lot lately – taking reference sketches and photos and creating a new composition based on those.

I like the concept you have here Big G. Maybe just moving that tall palm more to the right would balance things out.

See, that's exactly what I've been trying to grasp. The tree winds up almost dead center whenever I crop the photo the way like, but I know centering is a big no-no when creating a composition. Yet I resist moving it. Hmmm.

At least I've learned that you don't have to paint all the overhead wiring. I'll get there.

haha, leaving the wiring out - i am just coming to that realization.... I like the tree exactly where it is, it looks slightly off center to me, but maybe i'm dyslexic

It's definitely off-center, it's just at that annoyingly "only a little bit off-center" point.

Thanks,gz
