Blue Boy II

Acrylic on Panel - 6 x 8 inches

A larger version of the previous painting. I tried to keep it as loose, but detail crept in, and I'm not sure it's helping.

Berry picking

Acrylic on Panel - 4 x 6 inches

Painting some smaller panels because it's easier to leave detail out. Must find a way to adapt this to larger surfaces.

Mission Storm Break

Acrylic on Panel - 9 x 12 inches

Another view of the rainy Mission District in San Francisco, this time, it's starting to clear up, but still very wet. I like rainy days like this, which is good, because we're hurtling toward this kind of weather again.

Atypical Clouds

Acrylic on Panel - 8 x 10 inches

Painting the skies in Northern California can be boring. Either completely blue or completely gray. As fall approaches, things get a little more interesting.

Mother and Child

Acrylic on Panel - 8 x 8 inches

One more go at it. I'm including some steps along the way, not just to show the process, but I met with a painter over the weekend who was filming his painting process and discovered that some of this work seemed better at some stage along the way other than the finished product.

Even the the lighting is wrong in the three photos I took to show the process, I think I prefer the looser brushwork. Hmmm.

Mother and Child

Acrylic on Panel - 8 x 8 inches

First in a series, for a challenge sent by my father. The photo was difficult to work from because it was back lit and most of the faces were in shadow, but a challenge isn't supposed to be easy.

'Brellas

Acrylic on Panel - 5 x 7 inches

For this sketch, I took various elements that I saw from the same vantage point and combined them into a new composition. It was liberating to be able to edit so much out of the scene.

Mother and Child

Acrylic on Panel - 8 x 10 inches

This is a very loose sketch on top of a print as a test. I wish I could paint this way more often. It just flowed out of my brush.

The old Harding Theater, on Divisadero, is a bit of a ghost ship that is in the process of being reborn as something new.

Cupcakes

Acrylic on Panel - 6 x 6 inches

I spied them sitting in the plexiglass case by the coffee counter, and decided to take home an image of them instead of all those calories.
