My friends post photos of themselves as children. Sometimes I download them, thinking I'll paint them. Today I did paint one. I color corrected the source first, but I think that took out the charming tone of the old and faded print. I just didn't think I should try to emulate that in a painting. That's something that photo realists like doing, and I am no photo realist.

Lemon

To keep my sketches fresh and loose, I'm painting them with a timer. 15 minutes on this one. Doesn't give the paint much of a chance to dry, so I have to layer it on thick and wet.

Snow Vineyard

It's not often you get to paint snow and vineyards at the same time. Certainly not in California.
A good friend of mine has a fledgling vineyard in New Mexico and recently posted a photo of this rare opportunity. Here's my take on the condition.

Floral with Oranges

This is my submission for the Daily Paintworks "Floral Still Life Challenge."
I did this one rather quickly and I've noticed the faster I go, the more "happy mistakes" I wind up leaving in. I could have spent 4 hours on this, but I don't think it would have been better. Just fussier. Your mileage may vary.

The Conservatory

I originally started this for the Daily Paintworks Challenge last week, but had to change a thing or two and wound up later than I thought. They still encourage you to post after the deadline anyway, so here it is. The theme "relaxation station" was intriguing and I realized I don't relax around here at all. I have to go out for a walk to chill out. And this is one of my favorite places to go.

I liked the one I did yesterday enough to try it again at a larger size, to see if I could keep it a bit looser and less fussy. I succeeded in some parts, but I still gravitated to the smaller brushes.

Tokyo Skyline

Acrylic on Panel - 9 x 12 inches SOLD

Stuck in the Air BnB waiting for my traveling companions, I painting something close to this on my iPad, using Brushes. Little did I know that the most recent update to iOS 8.1 rendered Brushes useless. No big whoop. I just had to redo it from memory (and the original photo I took). I don't think this turned out as well as that now lost iPad painting, but at least this one isn't subject to software updates.
